Description

It is controversial how we should treat traumatic optic neuropathy so far. The basic guideline of treatment in our department is that, first, we examine severity of impairment of visual field, visual acuity and so on in each patients, then perform steroid pulse therapy, and finally carry out an emergent operation only to the patients with severe visual dysfunction and obvious optic canal fracture found in radiological examinations. These findings suggest that the assessment and classification of visual dysfunction is useful to choose the method of treatment for favorable prognosis in patients with traumatic optic neuropathy.
