A diversity of experiences contributes to children’s development and helps foster a zest for living. In particular, experiences in nature during childhood are important. However, disabled children have extremely limited opportunities to experience nature. The aim of this report was to investigate the effects of a nature trip to the ocean on mentally and developmentally disabled children’s growth and development based on the qualitative analysis of a questionnaire administered to parents. Results show that parents’ main hopes for the ocean experience program were “enjoyment” and “new experiences,” and they felt that the children enjoyed the outing and were greatly satisfied. Parents’ expectations for the ocean nature experience program were that it would stimulate their children’s mental, spiritual, sensory, and physical development. The responses regarding the timing of the appearance of effects varied among parents. Even for normal children, the timing of the appearance of effects differed depending on the individuality and developmental stage of each child. In disabled children, who not only have general individual differences but also differences in the type and severity of disabilities, the appearance and timing of the same effect would be even more diverse. The significance and effect of nature experience activities was to support growth and development of rich humanity, independence, physical strength, and health. From the perspective of parents, it became clear that eliminating disparity in experiences is indispensable for eliminating the disparity in education that aims to develop a zest for living.
