Abstract

The offensive tactics in handball are mainly divided into set offense (SO) and fast break (FB), and a new attack tactic in throw-off called quick start (QS). The purpose of this study was to identify target scores according to league rankings by offensive tactics using analyzing scores. The sample consisted of the 28 games (8 universities) played in the University Handball League in Kanto Women’s Division1 (Autumn season). Each offensive tactics were divided into set offense, fast break, quick start. Performance variables were the number of attacks, shots, goals, turnovers, and attack efficiency, shot completion rate, shot efficiency, the turnover rate calculated from these values. Spearman’s rank correlation analysis was used to confirm the relationship between performance variables in attack phase (set offense・fast break) and the league rankings. There were significant positive correlation between league rankings and number of attacks (ρ=0.810: p<0.05), turnovers (ρ=–0.755: p<0.05) in SO. And, There were significant negative correlation between league rankings and attack efficiency (ρ=–0.905: p<0.01), shot efficiency (ρ=–0.762: p<0.05) in SO. On the other hand, there was no significant correlation between league rankings and all variables in FB. The regression equations for the variables for which correlations were identified are as follows; number of attacks (y=1.5986x+35.699), turnovers (y=0.9575x+8.281), attack efficiency (y=–1.7983x+42.450) and shot efficiency (y=–1.6834x+52.758). The regression coefficients of each regression equation were considered as target values that raises the league rankings. Therefore, these results suggested that it is important to improvements number of attacks, turnovers, attack efficiency and shot efficiency. However, although the results of this study were mathematical models and can be used as target values, achieving the target value may not improve league rankings.
