Description

In modern Chinese, the adverb is one of the functional words, and its main grammatical function is to act as adverbial modifiers. However, on the other hand, there is also the phenomenon of the adverb acting as an adnominal modifier - examples of its use have been confirmed in the Chinese elementary school national language textbook "Xiaoxue Yuwen" - which can be seen as one of the basic grammatical functions of the adverb (not as an exception). In this paper, for all the adverbs in the Dictionary of "Xiandai Hanyu Cidian" (7th edition), the author selects the adverbs that can be used as adnominal modifiers from the examples in the corpus, analyzes the characteristics of these adverbs, and examines their relationship with other sentence elements. This paper also considers the question of markedness.
