Abstract

The comic “DORAEMON” by Fujiko F. Fujio is very popular in Japan and other Asian countries. This work depicts universal human psychology. Since all Japanese are familiar with its contents, it is considered useful as an example or teaching material for learning the basic attitudes necessary for care givers. SEWASHI, the character in the work, is an egoistic person, but care givers are also in danger of dominating care users with their own views of humanity and values. DORAEMON is not a well‐made robot. However, that is why it is able to empathize with NOBITA, an underachiever. Care givers may be able to demonstrate empathy like DORAEMON toward users by being aware that they too will die and by being aware of their own weaknesses and imperfections.
