In previous works, the authors have proposed a new method to excite the ultrasonic vibration in a metal ring. The system composed of four pairs of piezoelectric elements for torsional/longitudinal vibration embedded in four arcuate metal blocks was designed and theoretically investigated via finite element analysis. This paper presents an experimental study on previous designed systems and an application to the travelling wave ultrasonic motor using the piezoelectric elements for torsional vibration.
