Description

The Masked Fools Dance (Baka-men Odori) is one of the traditional performing arts which is loved by the inhabitants of Funabashi city. The Masked Fools Parade is the main event of the Funabashi Citizens Festival held at the end of July every year. 12 preservation town councils and 1 organization are involved in the Parade and they dance to a tune called “Okazaki". The interesting fact is that although the tune itself is the same, the interpretation of the tune differs among the councils. This research focused on the rhythm of Japanese Drum played in the tune and would reveal the distribution of the rhythm depending on the town councils. The starting point was gathering the 21 recordings of the music from the past 4 parades held in 1991,1992,2017 and 2018 then writing down the notations of
