Abstract

The purpose of this joint research is to newly identify the development and the depth of learning of children in childcare by deepening their thinking through the submission of questions. For this purpose, the authors apply the lesson study method, commonly employed in school education, to the activity analysis of daycares and kindergartens, In the previous three reports of this joint research, authors explained the purpose of research and used the lesson study method in the three areas of childcare, “human relationship,” “environment,” and “health,” to perform an analysis of representative activities in these areas recorded on DVDs. In the analysis, authors viewed the activities to be composed of multiple constituents, and identified the structure of individual constituents. This demonstrated that the examination of activities in childcare practice using the lesson study/analysis method allows us to identify the deep learning in children’s words and actions. These results demonstrated that the lesson study method used in school education can be applied to activity analysis in childcare at daycares and kindergartens, and extract children’s learning in childcare practice.
