Description

In this study, the author interviewed six mental health social workers (working at psychiatric hospital in Fukushima Prefecture) who, at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, were performing duties such as community life support, hospitalization, and discharge support for people with various mental disorders, while also being victims of the disaster themselves. The interview lasted approximately one hour per mental health social worker, and they were asked about “things that still leave an impression on them more than 10 years after the March 2011 disaster. The interview content was analyzed based on research methodology and with the prior consent of the participants. As a result, two major categories were extracted, mainly “work-related” and “life-related” and it was found that “experiences/memories as a disaster victim (a person living in the disaster area)” and“ experiences/memories as a mental health worker” are still remembered more than 10 years after the disaster.
