ChatGPT-4 is widely recognized for its ability to generate natural language responses to various inputs. It is therefore anticipated to assist in clinical diagnoses and treatment decision-making. To assess whether ChatGPT-4 can support registered dietitians, the 37th Registered Dietitian National Examination held in February 2023 was used to evaluate ChatGPT's clinical reasoning capabilities and accuracy in the field of nutrition. Test questions were input into ChatGPT's interface in English, and responses were judged based on official answers provided by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. ChatGPT-4 answered 196 out of 200 questions, achieving a pass rate of 78.6%. This suggests the potential for ChatGPT-4 to support dietitians in Japanese clinical settings. However, there is room for improvement in its performance, and careful interpretation and use of ChatGPT's answers are essential.
