Abstract

Milk and dairy products are foods that support human health and have contributed to the health maintenance of the Japanese people as highly nutritious foods. Japanʼs milk production increased after World War II but has been declining since 1997, reaching 7.71 million tons in fiscal year 2022. Since the fall of 2007, this university has been conducting a “Dietary Improvement Week” (“Breakfast Fair”) to increase the breakfast intake rate among its students and to raise awareness of dietary habit improvement. At the Breakfast Fair, this university conducts an ongoing survey on food-related issues. This study compares and examines the attitudes of their students toward milk and dairy products based on the questionnaire responses obtained at the breakfast fair regarding milk and dairy product intake. The results showed that the number of students who habitually consume milk and yogurt has been decreasing year by year. This suggests that the dietary habits of this university may be disordered. It was considered necessary to actively educate students about milk drinking in the future. We thought it necessary to inform the students that not drinking milk would not only negatively affect their health but could also lead to the decline of Japanese agriculture and dairy farming in the future.
