Abstract

This paper demonstrated how agricultural training in Japanese farm households affected the farming activities of Indonesian West Javanese agricultural youth who learned agricultural technology. Specifically, we examined the changes in farming activities before and after the training, the effects of the training and activities in the local community, and the training results using the total annual gross sales as an evaluation index. Thus, it was confirmed that the training had been successful, as seven former surveyed trainees had increased their annual gross sales by increasing the number of chickens, expanding sales, and introducing new products. In addition, all former trainees managed local farmers’ organizations and served as community leaders. Furthermore, they actively shared their experiences and knowledge by becoming lecturers within the farmers’ group to share their experiences and knowledge gained in Japan with local farmers, a positive spillover effect of the training program.
