This study analyzes 59 cases in a survey on pregnancy and continuation of learning conducted in junior and senior high schools in Saitama, Mie, and Kumamoto. The aim of this study is to discuss schools' responses and issues regarding the continuation of schooling, as well as the support they should seek to provide. The students were attending junior high school in 14 cases and senior high school in 35 cases. Approximately 90% of the pregnancies were with their current romantic partner. The continuation of schooling for pregnant students is affected by their pre-pregnancy academic motivation, the intentions of their parents, and other factors. Schools have struggled to deal with both the tangible and intangible aspects of the situation. A notice issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT)in March 2018 sets out a policy that students should not be expelled from school due to pregnancy, but this notice is unenforceable. It is expected for the government to provide clear guidelines enabling students to continue their studies. Accordingly, it is important to focus on the effectiveness and challenges of transferring students to regular and correspondence high schools, together with the involvement of students, parents, and institutions other than schools.
