Abstract

This study focuses on “ judgment of right and wrong,” which is an important value in moral education, from infancy to early childhood. As a result of confirming the developmental characteristics of children regarding the judgment of right and wrong and the direction of education, I extracted three perspectives: (1) the state of human relations, (2) the basis for judging right and wrong, and (3) the independence of children. The purpose of this study was to clarify how these perspectives are utilized in moral teaching materials. As a result of analyzing 28 teaching materials for moral studies in the lower grades of elementary school, it was clarified that “ relationships with close friends” were emphasized, and “ clues to infer the emotions of others” led to the implementation of good behavior. In addition, although the “ development to independent behavior” from infancy to early childhood was treated, there were no teaching materials on the influence of“ adults” on good behavior. The characteristics of children’s development and the direction of education influence each other, and in particular, when it comes to judging right and wrong starting from heteronomy, it is necessary to learn from the perspective of children’s development in relation to others.
