Description

In this study, the strength of single lap joints using the inorganic adhesive with aluminum di-hydrogen phosphate binder is investigated at elevated temperatures. First, to research the stress distribution at the vicinity of interface between adhesive and adherend, a stress analysis is performed by ABAQUS. Second, the strength of single lap joints using metal sheets of SUS430 as adherends are obtained by tensile test at room temperature, 200, 500 and 700 degrees Celsius. And last, the adherends with SUS304 which has a higher thermal expansion coefficient than SUS430 are also used to check the influence of thermal stress. As a result, if choose the adherend has a thermal expansion coefficient near the inorganic adhesive with aluminum di-hydrogen phosphate binder, a high joint strength can be expected up to 700 degrees Celsius. However, it is necessary to warn the plastic deformation of the adherend at elevated temperature.
