The purpose of this study was to evaluate nurses’ awareness of the items required for nursing in patients with terminal cancer. The subjects of analysis were 552 nurses working in the general ward of national, public, and private hospitals. A 30‐item questionnaire was formed based on the concerned papers and was carried out to evaluate nurses’ awareness and its association with their attributes. The following results were drawn. More than 80% of the nurses taken part in the questionnaire agreed to the necessity of their awareness of almost every item. Such items as the procedures for administration of narcotics, and talking with the patients about their needs or death, however, the person of 50% or more were not adequately understood. It will be necessary to deepen recognition and knowledge for the WHO pain treatment method, and, to make outlook on nursing and outlook on of nurse oneself verge of death clear in future.
