Description

The Centrifuges have been used for hydroextraction of wetted fabrics in home laundering with the pervasion of electric washing machines. In the Centrifuges the wetted fabrics are placed in the perforated cage, which rotates at about 1700rpm, developing centrifugal pressure which forces the fabrics to the inner wall of the cage. The excess of water passes through the perforations and is drained away. In this experiments the content of water in the wetted fabrics decreases exponentially with the time of hydroextraction. In the initial period of two to five minutes of rotation of centrifuge, the content above one half of water is removed. Since the fabrics of synthetic fibers are hydrophobic, they are easily hydroextracted, but they are much more wrinkled than the fabrics of viscose rayon and natural fibers which are hydrophilic. With some goods, particulary vinylon and rayons, there is a danger of the perforation marking of the cage on the outer layers of the fabrics. These wrinkles and markings are decreased to some extent by lining the inside of the cage with a piece of felt.
