Abstract

We counselors sometimes meet adolescents who suddenly become unable to go to schools. Some of them used to be good students without any records of severe misbehaviors, therefore their parents and teachers are puzzled and confused by their refusal to go to schools. As we meet such students, it gradually become clear that they failed to establish their "selves". In the counseling sessions, such adolescents often talk that their lack of true "selves" brought them into troubles. Having no true "self" is regaeded as an important theme for adolescents. In this article, two cases of such students are described; one girl made efforts to conform to her friends, the other girl was obedient to her mother and tried to fulfill her mothe's expectations.
