Description
Seventy patients with acute gonococcal infection were treated by single dose intramuscular injection of Spectinomycin (2g, Trobicin). Clinical and bacteriological effects were examined on the 4th day after treatment for 60 men with acute gonococcal urethritis and for 5 women with acute gonococcal cervicovaginitis. Five cases were not evaluated because of incomplete description in this study. Clinical symptoms characterized by pain on urination and urethral discharge in male patient disappeared in about 85% on the 4th day, but the effect on pyuria was rather delayed (cleared 50%, decreased 50%). Overall clinical efficacy of Trobicin in male subjects showed 98.3% of excellent and/or good effects, and in female cases showed 80.0%. Single dose (2 g) therapy with Spectinomycin was quite useful for acute gonococcal infection, however, an additional injection on the 4th or 7th day was recommended for any case having prolonged symptoms or of female gonorrhoea.
