[Synopsis] This paper describes three issues about the present condition for the universal design (UD) and the barrier free (BF) in Higashi-Hiroshima by the field work and interviewing: (1) the condition of the BF and the UD about the road; (2) the condition of the BF and the UD about the commercial shops; (3) the satisfaction of the wheelchair user and the blind for the BF and the UD. This study clears two points; (1) The using of the universal design methods is very hard about the city planning and the existing building. (2) In this case, the satisfaction to the using of buildings is increase by the barrier free methods.
