説明

Social businesses, which are neither charity nor regular businesses but aim explicitly to achieve social goals through business activities, have been spreading worldwide since the late 1990’s. One of the most influential social business institutions is the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. The Grameen Bank has created more than 20 family companies in various fields. The Grameen Shakti (Energy) is one of them - a pioneering and the first company in the world to promote solar energy technology to rural communities and develop a sustainable and cost-effective renewable energy program for the poor. This report first presents an overview of the Grameen Shakti, and then examines how the lives of rural people have been improved by its activities.
