This study investigated the effects of picture cards on the acquisition of reading skills of "KANJI" among nursery school children. Forty-two children were randomly assigned to one of the three experimental groups: Group A was under the condition of simultaneous presentation of KANJI and picture cards, Group B, successive presentation of KANJI cards preceding picture cards and Group C, picture cards preceding KANJI cards. The results were evaluated in terms of transference of stimulus control and Group B was the best. No significant difference was found between Group A and C.
