application/pdf

The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the structural transformation of the Japanese industry and economy from the 2000s to the 2010s, based on reproductive viewpoint and trade relations. In the industrial structure, domestic production of general machinery and transport machinery that grew dependently on exports in the 2000s fell in the 2010s. In the electrical machinery industry, price declines remarkably continue following the 2000s. In the composition of sales channels of products in the 2010s, the production of investment goods such as labor instruments has decreased greatly. In addition, although the export value greatly decreased as will be described later, the composition ratio of exports in the composition of sales channels rather expanded due to the declining domestic investment and consumption. Due to the declining domestic capital investment, domestic production of most capital goods is decreasing in the 2010s. Capital goods whose capital investment is increasing are heavy electric machinery for the electric power industry, electronic computers, ship, aircraft with a high ratio of munitions. Although domestic investment of medical equipment is increasing, purchase of imported goods is increasing due to deterioration of international competitiveness. From the latter half of the 1990s to the 2010s, the average incomes of domestic people are declining. The main reason is the expansion of low wage / unstable irregular employment. In the 2000s, irregular employment expanded greatly in export industries such as automobiles and electric machinery, but in the 2010s, irregular employment in domestic demand industries such as commerce, medical and welfare fields expanded significantly. The trade deficit in the 2010s is due to the declining competitiveness of traditional export industries along with the rise in energy import prices. In the electric machinery industry, international competitiveness has declined since the 2000s, but the trade surplus shrunk by product not only for consumer goods but also for electronic components. In the automobile industry in the 2010s, export volume of parts declined, although overseas production increased due to expansion of overseas production including supply chain. In the general machinery industry, trade surplus is also shrinking due to overseas production expansion in China and elsewhere.
