本研究では、中学生の情報リテラシーの育成には、その情報利用の実態について基礎的な研究が必要であるという観点のもと、中学生の情報探索行動の実態を把握するために中学生500名以上に対して質問紙調査を行った。調査の結果、中学生にとってインターネットが情報探索時の情報源としても日常の利用情報システムとしても多用されていることが明らかになった。情報探索行動の傾向としては、情報探索時にインターネットや図書資料を利用せず、自ら調べようとしなかったり、情報システムに接しようとしない生徒の情報を活用する能力が低いことが見出された。インターネットは情報の収集力の向上には影響力を持っていることが示唆されたが、情報教育を行う際には、ひとつの情報システムに偏重することなく指導してゆくことが必要であると言えよう。指導方法に関しては、現在行われている調べ学習や図書館、インターネットの利用指導の有効性が明らかになった。

In this research, we investigated Japanese junior high school students' information seeking behavior. In order to encourage basic research on junior high school students' information literacy education, we need to understanding the real situations among students at first. A questionnaire was executed to 596 students from five schools. The results showed that the Internet was a popular tool for them in their everyday life, as well as the source for the particular information seeking. Student their abilities of using information were low who use neither Internet nor the books material when seeking information, or didn't try to examine voluntarily, or didn't touch the information system. It is necessary that teacher guide not to lean toward one information system at information education. On guidance method, the effectiveness of the guidance being done now was clarified, for example, investigation study, guidance of Internet and library.
