Assuming that the grade of an infinitesimal concentrate is proportional to the instantaneous grade of the material to be concentrated in any separation process, a fundamental equation expressing the relation between the recovery R and the enrichment ratio ρ of any constituent has been derived as follows : [numerical formula] where K is a constant which has been named the concentrability coefficient. For the graphical computation of the concentrability function, intersection and alignment charts for R, ρ and K have been prepared. It has been shown that the concentrability function can be satisfactorily applied in the interpretation of the results of hatch flotation testing of iron sulphide ores from the Matsuo mine, Iwate Prefecture.
