This year marks the ninetieth anniversary of the foundation of Hikone Higher Commercial School, the precursor to Shiga University Faculty of Economics. In this special year, the university began construction of the three-story Shikon Shosai General Research Center in the courtyard of the Hikone Campus. The center, named after the school motto, is scheduled to be completed next year.In commemoration of the anniversary, we took a close historical look at the philosophy of Shikon Shosai and concluded that it is not a mere school motto, but represents the modern Japanese spirit or the principle of modern Japanese capitalism.In this paper we will introduce the facilitiesof the Shikon Shosai General Research Center and the collections of the Institute for Economicand Business Research that will be located on the first floor of the new research center. The collections’rare and precious items will be provided with commentaries.
