Experiments were performed on the roasting of zinc sulfide in the temperature range 450 to 750℃ in the mixed gas atmospheres of 13 to 18% of O_2,35 to 12% of SO_2 and in the air. The resultant products at low temperature or in the gas containing a large quantity of sulphur dioxid, are rich in the basic suifate or in zinc sulfate, but most of those produced by roasting at high temperature are zinc oxide. When zinc sulfide is roasted at high temperature and in the atmosphere containing much sulphur dioxide, zinc oxide is produced. When zinc sulfide almost disappears, zinc oxide turns into the basic sulfate by the gas contained in the atmosphere. If we keep on its roasting, basic sulfate changes to zinc sulfate.
