For the purpose of the direct recovery of vanadium from the leach solution of soda-roasted iron sand concentrate, basic studies were made on the hydrogen pressure reduction, electrolytic reduction, and ion exchange resin extraction processes for the synthetic alkaline sodium vanadate solution. (1) Vanadium is successfully extracted by gaseous hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst as oxide precipitation. The rate of precipitation was determined by the hydrogen consumption measurement under various conditions. The activation energy was found to be 7,100 cal/mole, and the kinetic mechanism was proposed. (2) Electrolysis of the solution by using a mercury cathode also gives the oxide precipitation at the current density above 1.5 mA/cm^2. Cathodic polarization-current density curves were made and the relationship between the current efficiency and the current density, solution concentration, etc. was determined. (3) Comparison of the anion exchange resins revealed that Dowex 1-X10 was superior to Amberlite IRA-410 for the vanadium extraction from the solution. The saturation capacity was determined for various solution compositions and same elution reagents were tested.
