The purpose of this study was to develop an Anger Coping Scale for Children for measuring children's coping behavior in anger provoking situations, and to examine its reliability and validity. Additionally, the relationship between anger level and coping behavior with anger was examined. Subjects were 849 children (469 boys and 380 girls). First, item analysis and factor analysis using the main factor method (varimax method) was conducted on the response of the subjects. Results indicated, four subscales: "attack", "support", "escapism", "suppression". Then, the Anger Coping Scale for Children (ACSC) consisting of 25 items was developed, and it was confirmed that the scale had acceptable reliability and validity. Analysis of anger provoking scenes using the ACSC indicated that boys tended to exhibit "attacking behaviors" and girls tended to exhibit "supporting behaviors". From a developmental perspective, upper-grade students tended to exhibit "attacking behaviors" and lower-grade students tended to exhibit" escapist behaviors". Lastly, the relationship between anger provoking scenes and coping behavior was examined using multiple regression analysis. Results of a standard partial regression coefficient indicated that "attacking behavior" had a close relation to "scenes of parent-child relationships" and "scenes of frustration" and "supporting behavior" had a close relation to "scenes of companionship". This finding suggests that anger coping behavior exhibited by a child differs according to the target person of the anger.
