Abstract

application/pdf

Uraniferous lignite was found in Ouchi District, Miyagi Prefecture. The distribution of uranium and its content in lignite, sandy tuff and coaly shale were studied by chemical analysis, radioactivity measurement and autoradiographic method. In the eastern part of the district, there is also a large deposit of limestone, and the ground water is suspected of contain in bicarbonate ion. pH of the ground water is above 7. There are several partings of uraniferous sandy tuff in the coal seam. One of them was found to contain about 0.36% of U_3O_8. In the lignite adjacent to it, about 0.16% of U_3O_8 was found. The uranium in the coal seam was believed to be transported from sandy tuff by the ground water as carbonate complex and enriched in lignite by adsorption from it.
