In this study, the psychological adjustment of Brazilian children living in Japan was examined by comparing a group of children from schools that have a large number of Brazilian students with a group of children from schools that do not. The Kid-KINDLR and a portion of the Youth Self Report were completed by 114 Japanese-Brazilian and 152 Japanese children in the fifth and sixth grades. The results indicated that Japanese-Brazilians have higher self-esteem than Japanese children irrespective of the school they attend. Further, Japanese-Brazilians attending schools with a higher concentration of Brazilians have higher Hikikomori and Offensive Behaviors scores than those in schools with a lower concentration of the same. Having a high number of classmates of the same nationality was not related to positive adjustment among Japanese-Brazilian children.
