Musical"Show Boat , " which was premiered in 1927, is placed as"The work which has given a remarkable change in the concepts of Musical theatre piece and brought the advent of a new era to American musical history.Oscar HammersteinII(Playwright, Lyricist) and Jerome Kern(Composer) worked up a revolutionary theatrical form. It is totally different from the Musical Comedy that had been ranked as just an entertainment, with integration of music and story, creative and characteristic dramatization such as adopting American racial issues, or musical diversity such as adopting black music like blues into musical theater. As a result, they showed an artistic establishment and the possibility of performing arts. In this note, the author intended to consider its innovation through the artistic technique of Oscar Hammerstein II and Jerome Kern, and the role of this work that has performed in musical history.
