説明
This paper examines a document Taisetu-onkakituke owned by Saitama Prefectural Archives (Aida-ke monjo 1108, hereafter referred to as Kakituke), and discusses a new fact revealed through a comparative study of the contemporary historical accounts on interior decorative motifs on sliding doors, walls or ceilings in the Honmaru Residence, Edo Castle. Kakituke in itself gives details of the motifs and other interior designs of the castle recorded on 18 September, 1781 (Tenmei gannen). The detailed records are of the motifs of the paintings or styles of fanlight carvings (Horimono-ranma) and nail covers (Kugi-kakusi) in the rooms and passages located between Goza-no-ma (for Shogun's official duties) and Ohiroma (reception hall) including Kurosyoin, Matudamari, Take-no-roka, Nami-no-ma, Sirosyoin, Kiku-no-ma, Fuyo-no-ma, Gan-no-ma, Take-no-ma, Yamabuki-no-ma, Hame-no-ma, Yanagi-no-ma, Sakura-no-ma, Matu-no-oroka, Kaminoma-onheya, Tenzyo-no-ma and Tora-no-ma. When comparing the descriptions concerning the motifs with other historical accounts, the details in Kakituke corresponded with those of the other accounts except for the design on the ceiling in Kurosyoin. This suffices the credibility of this document. Kakituke tells that the motif of nail covers in the Ohiroma is `peonies wrapped with nosi' (Hang-nosi). Up to now we could only know about the outline of the oval nail covers in this room through an illustration in Tokugawa-seiseiroku (1889).
