Abstract

The Audio-Visual policy of the enlarging EU is very important because of its consequences for the domestic policy-making of each of the Central and East European(CEE)applicants, which include former socialist countries. This paper traces how CEE applicants accepted the Audio-Visual policy and analyzes the implications of the policy for these applicants. And this paper also illustrates some important remaining points in the acceptance of Audio-Visual policy by the CEE as follows: 1)Application of criminal law to the slander of a public figure 2)The Press Act, which was adapted during the socialist era and still exists in many applicant countries 3)Lack of neutrality of public broadcast 4)Lack of independence of the Broadcast Council
