Abstract

Gy=rgyLigeti (1923-2006) was a Hungarian composer who was a one of the most influential composers in the latter part of the 20th century. His music was extremely creative because he connected"processof variation in sound phases"with temporal process in music. He established his musical style called"micro-polyphony"in 1960s.In 1980s and beyond, he composed using past musical style,such as harmonic style by"poly-tonal"and church modes. And he came to compose using complicatedand multi-layeredstructure of rhythm,suchas"poly-rhythm"and"poly-tempo" . This paper describes musical effects of harmonic style and past music styles in Ligeti's music by analyzing his work"Concerto for Violin and Orchestra" .
