Three asymmetrically disubstituted diphenylacetylenes, p-X-C₆H₄-C≡C-C₆H₄-Y-p were synthesized, Where X is an electron donating group, such as methoxy and dimethylamino groups, and Y is an electron-withdrawing one, such as cyano and nitro groups. Their electronic and infrared spectra were measured and discussed.
