Marketing of scallops by Hokkaido Fisheries Cooperative Federation was studied in this paper. Recent success in the marketing of the scallop products was due to two conditions. First, Hokkaido has the dominant position in the production of scallops. Secondly, because the distribution system was well developed. Scallop products are thus well distributed in Japan. Economically scallop products has been changed from "general goods" to "superior goods". Distribution has greatly broadened due to changes in the marketing policy. However, owing to the present economic slump,the expansion of this market has slowed down.
