Description
Akashi(2007)demonstrated that a measure of emotion regulation assessed by the Intercultural Adjustment Potential Scale- ICAPS predicted a variety of mental health variables in Japanese college students. This study extends the previous findings by examining whether ICAPS emotion regulation ( ER )can predict depression and self-esteem above and beyond the Big Five personality traits. In a sample of 394 Japanese college students, ICAPS ER was associated with decreased depression and improved self-esteem. These relationships remained statistically significant after controlling for the Big Five personality traits.
