Description

The root of “Hamanas (Rosa rugosa)” has been used for dyeing of the “Akita Hachijo”, which is the traditional fabric of Akita area, Japan. In this study, a silk yarn was dyed by the extract from the root of the Hamanas to reproduce the Akita Hachijo’s dark brown and black color. Dyes were extracted by boiled water, alkaline solution and acid solution. By the dyeing and mordanting, various colors were obtained. The dark brown color was reproduced by using of chromic ion and iron ion as mordants, but the black color was not able to reproduce the color of Akita Hachijyo.
