Search this article

Description

This research discusses what sentence patterns elementary school students should learn in each grade when they write a narrative essay in Japanese. First, the data was collected regarding what sentence patterns students at this level actually used. The results were then compared to those related to what sentence patterns elementary school students used when they wrote a persuasive essay or an informative essay, which was implemented in the last academic year. On the basis of this comparison, the suggestion is made on what sentence patterns should be taught in each grade of elementary school. The suggestion will provide elementary school teachers with a guideline for teaching sentence patterns in a Japanese composition class, which was not developed to a practical level.
