Description
The structure of the Typhoon 7705 (VERA), which hit Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa in July, 1977 was studied after the expedition to the damaged area. The edge of eye-wall of the typhoonpassed just over the Ishigakijima Meteorological Observatory and maximum wind speed of 53.0m/s, and maximum peak gust of 70.2 m/s were observed. The location of the eye-wall obtainedfrom radar echo has good correspondence to tbe maximum wind radius, convergence region, maximum rainfall region and outer edge of the positive vorticity region. The radial distributionof the vorticity suggests the Rankine's Combined Vortex as the typhoon model.
