異文化を読み解くための批判的思考

本務校での「海外研修」という授業は、自国の中にあるサブカルチャーという異文化と他国の中にある異文化に接触することによる自文化の相対化を教示する。異なる姓・年齢・職業の日本人のグループが接触することによるサブカルチャーショック、さらに、日本人が日本または他国で非日本人と接触することによるカルチャーショックの事例から自文化変容の必要性を考察する。次の3 つの異文化接触を分析する。①日本人同士のサブカルチャーショック、②日本人が非日本人と接触することによるカルチャーショック、③日本人が関与していない2 つの文化接触によるカルチャーショックである。この分析では、自文化中心主義と文化相対主義の問題点を考察する。さらに、この考察には、批判的思考を必要とする。批判的思考とは、演繹、帰納、アブダクション、仮説演繹法、そして論証を指す。

The class titled ＂Overseas Study＂ at my college teaches ＂relativisticization＂ of one＇s own subculture, by comparing with a different subculture existing within one＇s own country and of one＇s own culture, by comparing with a different culture that exists outside of one＇s country. The stories of Japanese who are of different genders, ages, or occupational groups mingling with one another as well as of Japanese mingling with other non-Japanese whether in foreign countries or in Japan help the students to realize that different subcultures exist in Japan just as different cultures exist in the world. Three different categories of situations were analyzed:①situations where incidents of subculture shock took place between two Japanese groups, ②situations where incidents of culture shock took place between a Japanese national and a non-Japanese and ③ situations where incidents of culture shock took place between a group of non-Japanese and another group of non-Japanese. Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism were analyzed through critical thinking skills, which included deductive and inductive reasonings, abduction, the hypothetico-deductive method and argumentation.
