本稿では、1960年代のアメリカにおける社会騒乱が、全体として、「アメリカン・クリード」とどうかかわっていたかを検証するための第一段階として、どのようなイシューがどう表面化したかを、いわば叙述的年代表の形に整理することを目的とする。取り上げるイシューは政治イデオロギー、公民権運動、女性権運動、環境保護および消費者運動、ベトナム反戦運動、およびカウンター・カルチャーである。この時代のアメリカは、その「現状」において痛烈に批判されたものの、批判の梃子は建国以来の「アメリカン・クリード」そのものであった。したがって、さまざまな批判や運動は、むしろ、アメリカ的原理を検証するうえで、格好の材料を提供していると考えられる。これは、アメリカ史上で幾度も繰り返された「覚醒」や「復興」が、つねに宗教的原点に立ち戻ろうとする運動であったことと密接にかかわっている。

The "tumult" that swept across the United States in the 1960', as manifested in such movements as student upheavals, civil rights, feminism, counterculture, environmental protection, etc, seemingly marked a watershed that divided American history into B. C. (Before Crisis) and A. D. (After Destruction). But the debate as to whether that decade made America something fundamentally different from what it had been before, is far from concluded, though it seems certain that recent American culture and politics continue to be shaped by the lagacy of the 60's. As a first step in the effort to evaluate this lagacy, this note tries to spell out different aspects of the tumultuous decade in the form of an annotated chronology.
