Abstract

This Paper aims to explain the contour and central problems in social theory of The Third Way", which is social plans adovocated by A.Giddens, one of the world's most influential sociologists. The Third Way" is political programs to reform modern societies and renewal plans of social democracy. First, contents of The Third Way in 1998, Beyond Left and Right in 1994 as the preparing book, and Runaway World in 1999 as the supplmenting book, are intoroduced. Second, contents of enlarged edition of The Third Way" politics are intoroduced on the base of The Third Way and Its Critics in 2000 and the editor's intorduction of Global Third Way Debate in 2001. Third, new stages of The Third Way" politics are depicted and discussed on the base of Where Now for New Labour in 2002, the editor's intorduction of Progressive Manifesto in 2003, and discussions of The Third Way" in contemporary Japan.
