Abstract

Postgastrectomy patients have many problems at home after their short hospitalization. The purpose of this study was to elucidate changes in the symptoms, their management of the symptoms and features of their daily life. We have four interviews respectively with three patients. The first interviews were held 2 weeks after their discharge, and the other three interviews were held, respectively, at the time when 1 month, 2 months, and three months passed after the discharge. The following results were obtained, 1. Patients experienced some symptoms affected by overeating. They complained they had little  knowledge and skill about what and how much they might eat. They wanted the information of step-up eating method. 2. Patients experienced fatigue as the result of the unbalanced diet, activities and rest. 3. Patients needed the knowledge and skill of developing physical strength. 4. There is no nursing intervention during the transitional stage before full recuperation at home after their hospitalization. Patients make all possible efforts through trial and error.
