説明

The aim of this paper is to analyze the movement of promotion of physical training and sport in Kiryu Koto Kogyo Gakko which practiced Shuyoshugi education actively from the end of the Taisho Era. This college set up the branch of Shuyodan (a representative group of Shuyoshugi) in Taisho 15 (1926) and at the same time began to promote physical training and sport. In those days, the problem of thought was a big social issue and the principal of this college, Hirotaro Nishida had a recognition that the students of these kind of colleges had an inclination to be physically poor and such students tended to have undesirable thought, so he promoted physical training and sport from the viewpoint of nationalism. His intention was to "generalize" physical training and sport not only to the students of this college but also to the factory workers in Gunma prefecture and this intention was an anticipation of the policy of thought control by sport which was started in earnest from Showa 3(1928).
