Departmental Bulletin Paper

Two Gallants, the sixth story in James Joyce's Dubliners, is one Joyce himself deemed to be very important. This essay is an attempt to explicate this story from Florence L. Walzl's viewpoint of ""betrayal, social, political, and religious."" Special focus is placed on the characters' motives on different levels and the significance of the gold coin introduced at the end of the story.
