This essay is an attempt to reevaluate George Orwell’s 19 84 from the perspective of the\n“surveillance society”and “liberty.”The characteristics of the totalitarian regime of“Oceania,”\nthe country where the protagonist works for the Party presided over by “Big Brother,”are\nexamined to support the argument that most of them could emerge even in a democracy. The\nstudy also discusses the significance of 19 84 in the history of dystopian literature.
