Description

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of mental training based on the self-image training method. Forty-five high school tennis players participated in this study, and the training period was 4 weeks long, including imagery, concentration, and self-examination for competition. In the evaluation, the Diagnostic Inventory of Psychological Competitive Ability for Athletes(DIPCA.3)was used as a questionnaire. The following results were obtained: 1) After mental training, there was significant improvement in four items(selfactualization, self-confidence, decision, judgment)and total score. 2) High-level tennis players with national competition experience were significantly higher than other players, irrespective of training, in desire to win, desire to compete, cooperation and total score. The results suggest that mental training for a period of only one month is effective for improving the psychological competitive ability of young tennis players.
