経済的理解力の国民的普及の観点から,後期中等教育における経済学教育の意義を強調する向きは少なくない。この段階での経済学教育促進のための条件整備を目標に,イギリスで実施されたプロジェクト“Economics Education 14-16 Project"の主要成果たる中等学校教材“Understanding Economics"は,その性格,内容という点で検討に値する。それは現場の教員の意見を取り入れ,生徒の能力と教員の資質の実情に配慮し,生徒の興味を掻き立て,活動を促す刺激的で変化に富んだ内容となっている。また,科目の授業展開の上で示唆するところが多く,展開された事象についての経済学の理論の説明を提供するなど,教員にとっても行き届いた内容となっているが,その有効な活用には努力と注意が要求される。

This paper examines Understanding Economics, the main outcome of “Economics Education Project" which aimed the extension of economics education in English upper secondary education, These materials were compiled considering school teachers' opinion and present level of ability of the pupils and of competence of the economics teachers, Wide variety of these materials is intended to stimulate the pupils to learn from their own activities and experiences, These materials can help greatly the teachers without economics degree as well as the teachers with economics degree.
